Process in detail

The six stage process takes place online.

Stage 1: Briefing

During the ‘briefing’ stage, the process is explained in detail via online informational videos. Key topics addressed include:

EMCC Accreditation Facts

  • The four levels of accreditation with EMCC are Foundation (Level 3), Practitioner (Level 5), Senior Practitioner (Level 7) and Master Practitioner. Most candidates aim for Practitioner.

The Application Form

  • You will need to provide information relating to your prior experience and training, CPD, supervision, and share a personal statement about your coaching practice and approach.

The Recording

  • The recording must showcase your coaching in action. Ideally, it will be a video made using MS Teams or Zoom, but audio only is also acceptable. The duration should be between 30-60 minutes.
  • As a bare minimum we require evidence that you can structure a coaching conversation around a coaching model and ask clean, incisive, open questions that raise the client’s self-awareness.
  • Additional information is shared in the informational video, supported by resources available for download.
    Successful Outcome
  • In most cases, we recommend candidates for accreditation at the level of their prior training and experience. In other words, if you have completed ILM Level 5, you gain EMCC Practitioner.

Other Outcomes

  • If your recording does not meet the requirements, we may offer the chance for a second submission. Alternatively, we will provide feedback and recommend further training.

What is included in the fee?

  • The cost of this programme includes your first year of individual membership of EMCC UK, and the cost of accreditation itself. You will be responsible for your renewal fees.
  • Membership renewal costs approximately £100 and is annual; accreditation renewal is approximately £200 and is required every five years.

Stage 2: Application

Complete the online application form using our secure portal.

Stage 3: Recording

Submit a 30 to 60-minute recording of yourself conducting a coaching session.

  • This will be viewed and assessed alongside all information in your application including prior experience, training, and total practice hours.
  • You will receive a written report containing feedback designed to be helpful, highlighting some of your strengths and also potential areas for development.
  • If the recording is not at the required level, then there are a few possible scenarios:
    • resubmit another recording for assessment
    • accreditation at a lower level
    • recommendation for further training

Stage 4: Reflective Piece

Submit a 500-word commentary demonstrating that you are able to reflect on your work: why did you choose the approach that you took? What do you think you did well? What might you have done differently? How typical was this session for you?

Stage 5: Declaration

Before we can recommend you for individual accreditation with EMCC Global, you will submit a declaration of commitment to standards relating to ethics, diversity, record keeping, supervision, CPD, and professional practice.

Stage 6: Accreditation

Successful candidates will be automatically recommended for individual accreditation with EMCC Global at the level that is equivalent to their existing qualification.

Electronic accreditation documents will be sent by EMCC directly to the candidate by email, normally within two months.
