What is Team Coaching?

Programme Purpose

For you to gain the knowledge, mindset and skills required to deliver team coaching services to intact teams.

Successful completion results in personal accreditation as a Team Coach with EMCC Global at Foundation level within a month.

Target Audience

Participants on this programme should have at least 100 hours of coaching experience, working with a range of clients.

Ideally, your individual coaching will be accredited at Practitioner level or above (equivalent to ICF ACC or ILM Level 5). 

Prior experience as a facilitator of teams or groups is also recommended. However, it is not necessary to have prior experience as a team coach.

This programme has been designed to set you up for success as you begin your journey as a team coach.

We provide a comprehensive introduction to the discipline, enabling you to start practicing in a responsible and ethical way.

Our intention is to provide the maximum level of training in the minimum amount of time, without compromising the quality of your learning experience.

Session 1

Programme Launch

In which participants meet each other for the first time and discuss team coaching fundamentals. 

Session Summary

Programme Launch & Introduction

In preparation for this session, you will watch short instructional videos that cover the team coaching definition, principles and journey. This content is discussed during the session. 

We also look at the learning journey ahead, to ensure that expectations are clear. This includes talking about how we will use the learner group as a practice team.

Session 2

Team Coaching in Practice

In which participants take a deep dive into the mechanics of team coaching. 

Session Summary

Team Coaching in Practice

Focus areas include whether to tackle the project alone or with a co-coach, the pros and cons of working virtually, and the importance of building a strong relationship with the team leader. 

This is the module where core practice areas area also addressed, for instance supporting teams to clarify their team purpose, and develop working agreements. You will also work with each other as a practice team, to gain experience working on a team purpose and charter.

Session 3

Creating Psychological Safety

In which the psychological dimension of team coaching is addressed in more detail, and team diagnostics are introduced.

Creating Psychological Safety

Team coaching demands a high degree of psychological safety, and team coaches need to be skilled in creating conditions where this is possible. 

In this session we explore what this means in practice, with a specific focus on working with teams that have become stuck. This session also introduces a range of diagnostic tools that can be used to accelerate the process.

Session 4

The Team as a System

In which we explore a systems thinking approach to team coaching.

The Team as a System

Incorporating systems thinking into team coaching involves shifting from an individual-focused approach to a broader perspective that considers the team as a dynamic, interdependent system.

We also explore the benefits of harnessing diversity in teams and discuss how to close down the team coaching relationship.

Session 5

Practicing Professionally

In which learners consider their signature team coaching style.

 

Session Summary

Practicing Professionally

As we arrive at the end of the programme, the focus turns towards the unique approach that each participant will take towards this new discipline. You will share your 15-minute presentation outlining your unique approach.

We explore what it means to practice ethically, maintaining professional standards. This includes receiving supervision on our team coaching work, attending CPD, updating logbooks and reflecting on practice.

2000-Word Essay

This final written piece will act as a way for you to consolidate your learning from the whole programme.

  • You will produce a personal template for team coaching, which includes the key stages that you consider to be essential in conducting a team coaching assignment. 
  • Your written piece will also outline how you will prioritise working ‘emergently’ with your future teams, and how will you address working on yourself, to develop your inner capacities as a team coach?

Finally, you will complete a short self-assessment exercise in which you measure yourself against the course learning outcomes.

Online Learning Platform

We use a very user-friendly online learning platform which acts as a secure base for all the work that we do over the 6-month period.

All the materials contained within the programme will be available here, along with homework assignments and space for community discussion.

The platform acts as a container for the learning journey undertaken by participants. Progress is indicated visually, and overdue tasks are highlighted.

Each module has a Community Discussion area where participants will share resources and reflections. Sessions are also followed up with a fun quiz.
