A Coaching Style of Leadership

A leader as coach builds trust-based relationships, listens deeply, and engages in meaningful dialogue to support individuals in achieving both personal and professional goals.

Programme Purpose

The purpose of this programme is to instil a coaching mindset enabling learners to practice coaching skills as a leader.

Successful graduation will result in learners gaining accreditation at Foundation level with EMCC Global.

Who is this programme aimed at?

Bridging to EMCC

You are a qualified coach (ILM Level 3, 5 or 7) and wish to obtain accreditation with EMMC Global at your existing level (i.e. Foundation, Practitioner or Senior Practitioner).

This programme will act as a refresher course and an opportunity to revisit core coaching skills, creating a secure foundation of competence.

Consolidation and Alignment

You are an experienced coach but may not have formal qualifications. Your training may have been basic or a long time ago.

You want to review, consolidate and refine your approach – and ensure your practice aligns with professional standards. It is also an opportunity to connect with peers and build your network.

Beginning your Coaching Journey

You are an experienced manager (over five years) but are not a practicing coach. You wish to begin your coaching journey.

On graduation you will gain Foundation level accreditation (Level 3) and will have the option to progress to stage two, completing the full EMCC Level 5 Certificate in Executive Coaching.

Welcoming everyone to the programme. Personal introductions. Familiarisation with learning platform. Discussing a team contract.

Ensuring a common understanding of coaching, and how it differs from mentoring and other kinds of intervention.

Asking Powerful Questions

We look at the skills associated with asking the best questions. This also involves gaining a deeper understanding of the principles of coaching.

Introducing a range of coaching models; developing your signature coaching style; practice and feedback.

Listening Skills

Core conditions of the humanistic approach; practical exercise drawing on Rogers, Kline and Miller

Coaching in the Moment

Coaching as part of your everyday leadership style; the coaching mindset; coaching under extreme time pressure.

Recorded Session Exercise

This activity involves receiving feedback on a recording of your coaching. You will collect this from a range of sources, the client, a peer and faculty.

Accreditation

EMCC Foundation level accreditation strengthens a coach’s core skills, enhancing listening, questioning, and reflective practice. It builds confidence, credibility, and a structured approach to client development.

For leaders, it cultivates a coaching mindset, improving communication, emotional intelligence, and team engagement. This enables more effective conversations, problem-solving, and a supportive leadership style that fosters growth.

Online Learning Platform

We use a very user-friendly online learning platform which acts as a secure base for all the work that we do over the 3-month period.

All the handouts contained within the programme will be available here, along with homework assignments and space for community discussion.

The platform acts as a container for the learning journey undertaken by participants. Progress is indicated visually, and overdue tasks are highlighted.

Each module has a Community Discussion area where participants will share resources and reflections. Sessions are also followed up with a fun quiz.
